cupcakes & culinary

Filed under: Food — heather @ 9:49 am

This weekend I made cupcakes! I used Amy Sedaris’ recipe for the cake and frosting and found the cake dense and dry and the frosting tasty but not plentiful enough for too many swirls.

My favorite High School teacher, Bev Anderson (she was my Culinary Arts instructor), is partially to blame for my love of baking. She is a wonderful person and very deserving of this year’s Shoreline teacher of the year award!

  1. The cupcakes look great! How did you get your frosting that way?

    Hello Michelle!

Thanks! To get the frosting this way I made three different colors purple, light blue, and light green. I loaded a pastry bag with the darkest color and swirled it onto my cupcake with a 1M tip, after covering a cupcake or two I was almost out of frosting, so I added blue frosting to the bag and continued to decorate the cakes, when I my bag ran low again I added the green. The whole action is incredibly lazy but the result is pretty :)

My favourite home-ec teacher was also a Bev Anderson. Where abouts did you go to school?

    Hello Kate!

I went to school in Shoreline, WA. Bev Anderson taught at Shorewood High school and possibly Einstein Middle school! Is this the same teacher or are all Bev Andersons’ just awesome?
