La-Z-Boy Letdown

On June 13th of 2008 we fell in love with beautiful well designed and comfortable reclining chair in Jacksonville at Lazboy’s Southside location. This chair was not cheap but I paid for it in full and was told that it would be delivered in 6 to 12 weeks. I guess this sort of quality takes time? I started getting antsy around 10 weeks and called for a status. I was told that the chair should be ready next week and was eagerly awaiting their call to schedule delivery. On week 11 Tropical Storm Fay arrived in the Jacksonville area so most of the city had shut down, including Lazboy (I guess because they didn’t seem to answer when I called). By the weekend I tried calling again, over and over, still no answer. On Monday I was finally able to reach someone who said that the storm had caused some damaged so they were unable to answer the phone, when I inquired about my order status he asked that I call back in an hour because their computer system was down. When I called back I was put on hold and was told that someone would call me later in the afternoon with my status. No one ever called. I had a terrible dream about throwing a brick through their window that night and started to worry that maybe they were going out of business and that I’d never see the chair I had paid for. I called again the next day where a gentleman named Bob Cooper answered. Bob gave me the most information yet but couldn’t tell me much. He said that they were under new ownership and that they were told by the new owner that all outstanding orders would go out this week but he could not make any promises and that if I wanted my money back I could come in for a full refund. I asked if it would help if I called the new owner and he told me that the new owner wasn’t answering his phone and was letting all calls go to voicemail. Today I found that their property has been up for immediate lease for a month. I only hope that their doors are still open when we go in next week for our refund.
I am tired of the constant disappointment I have experienced from several businesses here in Jacksonville. It seems like a lot of the people in these businesses do not have any sense of responsibility and completely lack the follow through to meet my expectations.
Don’t even get me started on the bunch of monkeys that ‘work’ at the Switzerland Animal Hospital, that office is a complete mess.
Update: My husband and I went in for our refund yesterday (Sept 2nd) and found that since talking to Bob on the 26th of August that he is no longer employed at this store and no one was willing to refund my money or tell me where my chair was. They told me that the only one that could honor this request for refund was Lawrence Jaudon and that he was out to lunch with the corporate office and that I needed to contact Lawrence Jaudon at 615-305-6717 (his cell phone). I left this guy a message that afternoon and when I woke up this morning I found that he had called me twice around 3:30 AM and did not leave a message. WTF!? We called again to ask about the status of our order today and was told that they might know something more on Friday. We also called the office where these deliveries come and were also told that they were planning on calling everyone on the list of missing furniture on Friday to tell them the status of their order. Since we paid in full for this chair over 60 days again we are not able to reverse the charges with our credit card. I am so mad at this company. On Friday, September 5th someone, who I have never talked to, from Lazboy left us a message to say that the chair “is scheduled to ship by the end of the month” and that they will “call me as soon as it arrives”.
Today is Sept 21st and we still do not know when/if our chair will arrive.
Today is Sept 30th, the last day of the month. I am not surprised that the promise to call us before the end of the month and tell us when our chair would be delivered would be broken. No one from Lazboy has called me so I called them. I talked to a nice lady name Barbara who told me that they are having like six trucks of furniture delivered to them in the next two days. She did not say that my chair would be on one of these trucks but did take my name and number down again for Lawrence . I hope Lawrence does call me back but not 3AM again just to hang up. Really, is this just some sort of sick joke Lazboy is playing on me? If it is, I am pretty pissed of and certainly not laughing.
It is October 13th, four long months since I placed my order for this chair at Lazboy. I called them today for an update and was told that my order “should be coming in on the 18th”, to which I asked “of this month?”.
October 17th, got a call from a nice girl with loud birds in the background. Does Lazboy work out of the Zoo? She said she could have my chair delivered either on Tuesday the 21st or Thursday the 23rd. I asked if she was serious. I told her Tuesday would be perfect. She said she’d call back on Monday, October 20th to arrange a delivery time. I hope she isn’t kidding.
Chair was finally delivered on October 21st. I am so happy this is over and that I never have to deal with this company again.
