off to SA

Filed under: Food, Holiday — heather @ 8:55 am

Darrell and I are headed to San Antonio for the week to visit with Darrell’s family. It’s been ages since we have seen his sister and her family so I am really looking forward to it. I am also going to work with my team on one of the days.

We hope to spend some of our time visiting the places we weren’t able to during our last visit when Darrell was in terrible pain from his evil kidney stone.

I hope I can sneak in a visit to Hoover’s for lunch if we go to Fry’s! I remember how sad I was when they closed their San Antonio restaurant. Oooh! Maybe I can twist Darrell’s arm and talk him into taking me to some cupcake shops in Austin too! Possibilities endless!

Vanilla’s Cupcakery is pretty yummy

Filed under: Food — heather @ 7:15 pm

I have had a change of heart after my last post about Vanilla’s Cupcakery.  I decided to visit them at their Jacksonville location to see if the cupcakes looked like they did on the website.  When I asked why the cupcakes looked so different they told me that they are in the process of having someone contracted through their webhost create their webpage and that they believe the photos on the website were stock photos.  I have a feeling that whoever threw their website together stole the cupcake photos and added them to the site :(   While I was in their shop they said that they have had some problems with their website; text was incorrect and their name was even spelled incorrectly.  They even mentioned that the site was not supposed to be online yet and that they were in the process of taking it off line until it was complete with their very own photographs.  This all made sense to me so I bought a red velvet and a creme brulee cupcake while Darrell picked out a triple chocolate and a birthday cake cupcake.  All cakes were pretty good but I didn’t care for the overly sweet frosting of my red velvet or the dry cake in my creme brulee cupcake.  Darrell said that he thought they were better than CamiCakes though!

I do want to go back to get a birthday cake cupcake of my own.

Jax cupcakes: stealing isn’t cool

Filed under: Food — heather @ 6:29 pm

A new cupcake shop opened here in Jacksonville. It’s called Vanilla’s Cupcakery. I was excited to visit their shop until I read about how they have ‘borrowed’ images of cupcakes for their website from other cupcake lovers throughout blogs and flickr. No wonder their photos looked familiar when I first looked at their site. How much do your cupcakes have to suck to have to steal other people’s cupcake photos for your business website? Maybe we will just stick to CamiCakes who uses photos of their very own lovely cupcakes and who’s cupcakes are just getting better and better.

Update
The owner of Vanilla’s Cupcakery has corrected the issue with their website and said this about the situation.

shopping shopping shopping

Filed under: Home — heather @ 5:46 pm

Darrell has been home for almost a week and we have been very busy shopping and putting the house in order. He had left soon after we moved in so we weren’t able to purchase some items we needed before he left. Well, we made up for that now!

After a visit from our helpful re-designer we had a better idea of which furniture items we were missing and promptly set out to populate our sparse house. I finally found a plain black dining room table to sit under my ornate blue crystal chandelier, a guest bed and pretty comforter set, new tv for the living room (we moved the other to the bedroom and the old one to the guest room), and a beautiful La-Z-Boy recliner that doesn’t look like an overstuffed sausage, the soft buttery leather chair won’t be ready for a few weeks. We also bought some stylish and affordable rugs and night stands from target and a leather headboard from Garden Ridge. Poor Darrell has spent most of the week putting things together and lifting heavy things. Our house is really starting to come together; we have art on the walls and have replaced most of the builder’s standard lights with our own.
