house: week 7

Filed under: Home — heather @ 4:53 pm

I was shocked to see that the house had been painted (krypton by Sherwin Williams) this afternoon.  We also now have a driveway, walkway to the front door, interior paint, cabinets, and tile!  The tile guys were there doing their thing so I just took photos from the outside of the house, through open windows.  My blue granite counter tops should be installed soon and I can not wait to see them!

I have also been searching desperately for cupcake rainboots (size 7, $20) at every Target I can drive to in Orange Park and Mandarin and also had my Mom go to a few in Seattle.  Maybe I will be able to find a pair in San Antonio when we visit but I am not too hopeful.  If you happen to find them please let me know, I will gladly paypal the money and cover shipping or pay you in cookies of your choice!

house: week 6

Filed under: Home — heather @ 6:17 pm

Well it’s week six for our new house and it looks like stucco has been applied to the outside and the inside walls sprayed with texture.  I am not sure what the next step will be.  Darrell’s stay overseas has been extended by a few days so he won’t be home until a little after week 7.  I hope he will be up to seeing the house before we leave for San Antonio on the 4th.

I couldn’t stay long at the house today because the drywall guys were there and they were looking at me funny.  Also, I stepped in some drywall goo, which was all over the floor,  and ruined my shoes so I only took a few photos and left.   Hopefully I can take a closer look tomorrow after I drop mom off at the airport.   Anyway, it looks like we have a front door, drywall  and some exterior details this week.  Maybe next week they will cover the front of the house in stucco.

Oh, today is also my 30th Birthday.  It’s been a pretty low key day, in fact the day doesn’t feel any different than yesterday.   My Mom is visiting and since Darrell is away its good to spend the day with someone.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Mom and I took a cupcake class last night and made a few fun treats.

Also, this week most of apartment was packed up in preparation  for our move to our new house which could be as early as next month or in the beginning of April.  I just hate packing and am very thankful to have my Mom willing to do it for me!

A year ago today Darrell and I started new jobs.

Darrell switched from is cushy sysadmin job and started as an aircraft mechanic. He comes home filthy and covered in grease but is beyond thrilled with his job, cut finger and all. I am very happy that he loves his job too!

I started working remotely as a contracted employee. I am very thankful to have this job and do enjoy it but find it pretty lonely. My team is good about talking to me and keeping in touch but it certainly isn’t the same as being in the office.

I am eagerly awaiting the opening of Whole Foods in Jacksonville and am thinking about trying to pick up some hours there. I know that they have grown a exceptional culture, treat their employees well, are team driven, and sell quality food which is something I am incredibly passionate about. I really think that this would help me to not feel so alone here, especially when Darrell is out of town.

house week 3

Wow! It’s really starting to look like something! This is week three of the construction process. The sides, roof, and plumbing have been installed. The plumbing included my beautiful bathtub! I wish I could soak in it right now because I very sore from boot camp.

Again, I took a bunch of pictures so that I could document this exciting process and also so I could show Darrell. I feel kinda bad that he can’t spend these exciting Saturdays with me. I am enjoying the moment it takes me to turn the corner when I go to look at the house because I am constantly and always pleasantly surprised by the progress that is being made! It would just be nice to share this with him in person. Hopefully the photos will at least give us both something to reflect on once this house is completed and we are living in it.

This week I think the electrical work will be done or worked on and then the drywall. Once the drywall is up the time to completion is about 30 to 40 days. Time to think about packing! Good thing my Mom will be visiting me soon. She has offered to help me pack items that I don’t need immediately while she is here. This will be a huge help because when I think about packing I freak out and do what I can to avoid it because I feel so overwhelmed by it.

After looking at the house and driving around the area I went to the “Spalon” and had the most amazing experience. I was taken to a nice locker room and given a warmed soft bathrobe and flip flops and then asked to hang out in the “relaxation room” until it was time for my facial. This room had plush comfortable chairs and a wide assortment of snacks and teas. Colleen, my estitition, asked that I lay on the padded and heated table while she completely pampered me for the next hour. I have already made another appointment for the end of the month!
