Last night I finished my four week Wilton Cake Decorating Course 1 class and applied the techniques I learned by baking and decorating the above cake! I also signed up for Course 2 which starts next week and promises to show us how to make several different types of flowers and more exciting techniques.
Last night was my third cake class, next week is my final class for this course. We made flowers and clowns. Here are my clowns.
This weekend I made cupcakes! I used Amy Sedaris’ recipe for the cake and frosting and found the cake dense and dry and the frosting tasty but not plentiful enough for too many swirls.
My favorite High School teacher, Bev Anderson (she was my Culinary Arts instructor), is partially to blame for my love of baking. She is a wonderful person and very deserving of this year’s Shoreline teacher of the year award!
I signed up for a Wilton cake decorating class 1 last week and have this lame cake to show for it on week 2. There are two more weeks left and promises of making cool things such as creepy clowns, roses, flowers, shell boarders and dots that don’t look like nipples. If this class ends well I will gladly sign up for class 2 next month. I mainly signed up for this class to get out of the apartment and meet people and also because I have this cupcake fetish and want to know how to decorate them properly. I’ll also be taking a Bob Ross painting class next week before heading out to the redneck riviera for Memorial Day weekend.
